New Delhi: India reported 335 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, with the number of active cases rising to 1,701, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. The country also recorded five deaths, with four in Kerala—where the COVID sub-variant JN.1 was detected—and one in Uttar Pradesh. The total COVID caseload in India now stands at 4.50 crore (4,50,04,816).
The number of people who have recovered from the infection increased to 4.46 crore (4,44,69,799), resulting in a national recovery rate of 98.81%, as reported by the Health Ministry. The total number of COVID-related deaths in the country is 5,33,316, with a case fatality rate of 1.19%.
The Health Ministry’s website indicates that 220.67 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in India. Additionally, a case of the COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1 was detected in a 79-year-old woman in Kerala, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The woman had mild symptoms of Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and has since recovered from COVID-19. Kerala Health Minister Veena George assured the public that the sub-variant was not a cause for concern and that the situation is being closely monitored.
