Dawood Ibrahim, the notorious underworld figure and mastermind behind the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, has reportedly been admitted to a hospital in Karachi, Pakistan, following an incident of poisoning. The influential criminal, who has been a fugitive for decades, is said to be under tight security in the hospital, with limited access granted only to top medical officials and immediate family members.

Unconfirmed Reports and Hospital Stay

While there is no official confirmation of the development, sources suggest that Dawood Ibrahim is the sole occupant of the hospital floor where he is receiving treatment. The circumstances surrounding the reported poisoning remain unclear, and the identity of those responsible is yet to be disclosed.

Dawood Ibrahim’s Presence in Pakistan

Dawood Ibrahim has been residing in Pakistan for an extended period, evading efforts by Indian authorities to bring him to justice. In January 2023, his nephew provided information to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), revealing that Dawood had remarried in Pakistan and was living with his family in Karachi.

Family Details and Criminal Activities

According to statements made to the NIA by Alishah Parkar, son of Dawood’s sister Haseena Parkar, Dawood Ibrahim has a second wife named Maizabin. The couple has three daughters—Marukh, Mehrin, and Maziya—and one son named Mohin Nawaz. The family details emerged during Alishah Parkar’s statement to the NIA in November of the previous year.

Dawood Ibrahim is not only linked to the orchestrating of the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, which resulted in over 250 casualties, but is also implicated in various criminal activities such as drug trafficking, money laundering, extortion, and arms smuggling.

India’s Pursuit of Extradition

India has actively sought the extradition of Dawood Ibrahim from Pakistan, presenting evidence of his involvement in criminal activities. Despite India’s efforts, there has been no effective action taken by Pakistani authorities, who consistently deny sheltering any criminals in their country.

Security and Diplomatic Implications

The reported hospitalization of Dawood Ibrahim, if confirmed, raises questions about his health, security, and the diplomatic complexities surrounding the criminal mastermind’s presence in Pakistan. The situation adds another layer to the enduring challenge of transnational crime and efforts to bring fugitives to justice.
