KOCHI: The Crime Branch has launched a detailed probe into a Mangaluru-based overseas recruitment firm accused of defrauding job seekers across Kerala by promising UK employment opportunities without the need for IELTS certification.

Operating under the name UK in Regal Academy, the firm allegedly cheated several individuals by luring them with promises of care assistant jobs in the UK. As many as 26 cases have been filed across the state since 2024, with seven complaints registered in Ernakulam alone. The economic offences wing of the Crime Branch is now handling the consolidated investigation.

Officials said the company aggressively advertised through social media and conducted both online and offline sessions. “Victims were persuaded to pay Rs 15–20 lakh each, often by taking loans, but never received the promised visas,” a CB officer stated. After repeated false assurances of refunds, communication from the company ceased entirely.

The main accused has been identified as C.K. Joseph alias Sooraj, a Kannur native operating out of Kodialbail, Mangaluru. His current location is unknown, and police are actively searching for him.

Crime Branch officials confirmed that similar complaints have surfaced in Karnataka as well. Coordination is underway with the Karnataka police to track the accused. The case was transferred to the Crime Branch last month, and more victims are expected to come forward.
