Delhi:The director of a reputed ashram in Vasant Kunj has been accused of sexually harassing students, prompting police to register a case and begin a manhunt. Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, formerly known as Swami Parthasarathy, headed the Sri Sharadha Institute of Indian Management-Research, where over a dozen female students have alleged harassment.

Multiple complaints from students

The case came to light after a complaint was filed by PA Murli, administrator of Sri Sringeri Math. According to the complaint, a PGDM student on an EWS scholarship was subjected to sexual harassment.

During the inquiry, 32 female students recorded statements with the police. Of them, 17 alleged verbal abuse, exposure to obscene videos, and instances of unwarranted physical contact. Some also accused women faculty members of coercing them into complying with the swami’s demands.

Fake UN car plate adds to controversy

Sources revealed that Swami Chaitanyananda owned a luxury car fitted with a fake United Nations number plate. The car has been impounded, and investigations confirmed that no such number had ever been issued.

The ashram issued a statement distancing itself from the accused. “Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, formerly known as Swami Parthasarathy, has engaged in illegal and inappropriate activities. As a result, the Peeth has severed all ties with him and lodged complaints with the relevant authorities,” the statement read.

Previous criminal cases

This is not the first time allegations have surfaced against the swami. Delhi Police sources confirmed that two criminal cases had earlier been registered: one in 2009 for fraud and molestation in Defence Colony, and another in 2016 in Vasant Kunj, where a woman accused him of molestation.

Police action and ongoing search

The Vasant Kunj North Police Station has registered a fresh case under relevant sections of the law. Investigators have seized CCTV footage, hard disks, and NVRs from the institute, sending them for forensic testing.

Despite these efforts, the accused remains at large. Several police teams are currently tracking his movements, and his location is being traced.

Growing concerns

The incident has raised fresh concerns about accountability and protection in educational institutes, particularly those linked to influential religious figures. Authorities have assured strict action once the accused is apprehended.
