The Delhi Police has ramped up security at key border points with Haryana and Punjab ahead of a large-scale farmers’ march scheduled for Friday. The demonstration, organized by farmers’ unions such as Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, aims to demand a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) and address other agrarian issues.
Police teams, including 400 personnel stationed at critical locations, are bolstering border security with barriers, jersey barricades, and containers to manage the anticipated crowd. The march is set to commence at 1 PM, and surveillance has been heightened across arterial roads and checkpoints.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dwarka, Ankit Singh, stated, “We’re taking preventive measures similar to past events to ensure order and public safety.” Coordination with Uttar Pradesh Police has also been established to cover adjacent regions and manage the flow of demonstrators.
DCP North East, Rakesh Paweriya, added, “Our border pickets are fortified with barricading, and every movement is being closely monitored to avert any untoward incidents.”
The farmers’ rally signifies ongoing discontent among agricultural communities over MSP guarantees and related policies. Authorities aim to maintain peace while respecting citizens’ right to protest.
