A four-storey building collapsed in northeast Delhi’s Seelampur on Saturday morning, leaving several people trapped under the rubble.
According to the Delhi Fire Department, the structure was a ground-plus-three-floor building. “Three to four injured individuals have been shifted to the hospital. We fear more people are still stuck,” an official said.
Seven fire tenders were rushed to the scene as rescue teams worked urgently to locate and evacuate survivors.
This incident comes barely a day after another collapse claimed a life in the capital. On Friday morning, a three-storey commercial building crumbled in the Bara Hindu Rao area in central Delhi, killing a 46-year-old man.
The victim, identified as Manoj Sharma, was working in a shop housed in the building when it gave way. He was pulled from the debris and taken to Hindu Rao Hospital, where he was declared dead.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which is carrying out tunnelling work nearby for the Janakpuri West–RK Ashram Marg Metro corridor, announced an ex gratia of ₹5 lakh to Sharma’s family.
In its statement, DMRC clarified that the affected buildings had been marked unsafe prior to tunnelling and were already evacuated.
Authorities continue to monitor the Seelampur rescue operation closely as concerns grow over structural safety in several parts of the city.
