New Delhi: In a shocking incident in Madangir, a woman reportedly poured boiling oil on her sleeping husband and sprinkled chilli powder over him in the early hours of October 2. The husband, Dinesh, is currently in critical condition at the ICU of Safdarjung Hospital, while the police have registered a case at Ambedkar Nagar police station.

Incident details

According to the FIR and police reports, the incident took place at around 3:15 am on the intervening night of October 1 and 2. Dinesh and his wife Sadhana, who have been married for around eight years, had reportedly experienced marital issues in the past but had reconciled and continued living together. On the night of the attack, a major argument preceded the assault.

Neighbours were alerted by Dinesh’s screams for help. When they rushed to the door, Sadhana refused to open, prompting the landlord to call Dinesh’s brother-in-law. Only after this intervention was Dinesh taken to the hospital.

Landlord’s daughter Anjali told India Today TV, “On the day of the incident, we heard Dinesh screaming. When we went upstairs, his wife wasn’t opening the door, and he was badly burnt. He kept saying that his wife had poured hot oil and chilli powder on him.”

Another resident, Manju, said, “We shifted to this house about two months ago. We later heard that the family living on the top floor had a fight, and the wife poured hot oil and chilli powder on her husband. That’s all we know.”

Victim’s statement

Dinesh, a medical representative, provided a statement from the hospital. He said he felt a burning sensation when hot oil was poured over his body and saw his wife standing nearby with chilli powder, which she then threw on him. He claimed Sadhana threatened to pour more oil if he raised an alarm.

Family background and previous issues

The couple has a history of marital disputes that had previously involved law enforcement. Despite past incidents, they had reconciled and were living together, along with their six-month-old daughter at the time of the attack.

Medical response

Following the incident, Dinesh was initially admitted to Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital, where a medico-legal case report was filed. Due to the severity of his burns, he was later referred to Safdarjung Hospital and admitted to the ICU. Authorities are monitoring his condition closely.

Police investigation

The Ambedkar Nagar police have launched an investigation into the incident. Statements from neighbours, the victim, and medical reports are being compiled to understand the motive and the sequence of events. Police are also looking into the mental and psychological factors that may have led to the extreme attack.

Conclusion

The Madangir case highlights the escalating instances of domestic violence in India, including extreme assaults within households. With Dinesh in critical condition and Sadhana under investigation, authorities have vowed to pursue stringent legal action to ensure justice for the victim while assessing the welfare of the couple’s young child.
