New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh has claimed that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is being tortured inside Tihar Jail at the behest of the Central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, he alleged that jail authorities have denied Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita, the opportunity to meet him in person.
He claimed that such action is being taken to break the morale of the chief minister. The MP cited rules of the jail manual and said that the jail administration has been granted the right to allow people in jail to meet visitors face-to-face.
He alleged that the CM’s rights were violated by not allowing his wife to meet him in person.
Requesting both Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah, Sanjay Singh asked them not to crush his rights, which are guaranteed constitutionally, democratically, legally, and under prison rules. He requested them not to try to act like dictators.
Sanjay Singh, who was released on bail earlier this month in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case, charged that Sunita Kejriwal was told by jail authorities that she could only meet him through a window. He claimed it was done to humiliate and break the morale of Arvind Kejriwal.
Singh said that even dreaded criminals are allowed to meet in the barracks, but a three-time CM of Delhi is only allowed to meet his wife through a window with glass in between. He termed this “inhuman.”
Arvind Kejriwal is currently in Tihar Jail under judicial custody. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate last month in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.
