New Delhi: Harsh Vardhan, a seasoned Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and two-time Member of Parliament representing Delhi’s Chandni Chowk constituency, has decided to retire from active politics. This announcement follows his omission from the party’s initial candidate list for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Harsh Vardhan, who notably served as the Union Health Minister during the COVID-19 pandemic, shared his decision on the social media platform X.

In his statement, Harsh Vardhan reflected on his illustrious electoral career spanning over three decades, during which he secured victory in all five assembly and two parliamentary elections with remarkable margins. “After over thirty years of a glorious electoral career… I finally bow out to return to my roots,” he wrote.

Highlighting his unwavering commitment to public service, Harsh Vardhan emphasized his dedication to the philosophy of “serving the last man in the queue,” inspired by Deen Dayal Upadhyay ji’s Antodaya principle.

Acknowledging the pivotal role of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in shaping his political journey, Harsh Vardhan noted, “It was at the insistence of the then RSS leadership that I jumped into the electoral fray.”

Expressing gratitude towards his party colleagues, supporters, and the common citizens, he stated, “I would like to thank all my party karyakartas, my fans and supporters amongst the common citizens as well as my party leaders.” He also expressed deep appreciation for his collaboration with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, referring to him as “the most dynamic Prime Minister in India’s history.”

Harsh Vardhan’s retirement marks the end of an era in Indian politics, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated public service and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the nation and its people.
