Bantwala: A shocking incident unfolded at the King Parish in Periyaltadka, Manela, here on February 29, when Reverend Fr. Nelson Olivera, head pastor of the Manela Church, physically assaulted an elderly couple Gregory Montero during a house blessing visit.
According to reports, Reverend Nelson accused the elderly couple of not cooperating with the church and failing to make donations. The situation escalated when he allegedly dragged and beat them, an act captured by CCTV cameras.
The appalling behavior of Reverend Nelson has sparked widespread outrage among the public. A case has been filed at the Vitla police station, and several priests have been seen visiting the station in response to the incident.
This incident raises concerns about the conduct of religious leaders and the impact it may have on ordinary people. If those in positions of spiritual authority engage in such behavior, it prompts questions about the treatment of the general populace.
