New Delhi : The Marlin Launda, a merchant vessel, found itself in a dire situation when it was struck by a missile in the Gulf of Aden. Fortunately, the Indian Navy‘s INS Visakhapatnam swiftly responded to the distress call, showcasing exemplary courage and expertise. With 22 Indian nationals and one Bangladeshi on board, the oil tanker faced imminent danger until the Navy’s firefighting team intervened.
Captain Abhilash Rawat expressed profound gratitude towards INS Visakhapatnam for their timely assistance, acknowledging that hope had dwindled before their arrival. The Navy’s statement reported that after a grueling six-hour battle, the fire onboard the MV Marlin Launda was brought under control, with ongoing monitoring to prevent reignition. Notably, the distress call also garnered responses from US and French warships, highlighting international cooperation in maritime emergencies.
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the vessel, owned by a UK-based company, fell victim to a ballistic missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels. This incident, occurring amidst the Israel-Hamas conflict, underscores the vulnerability of merchant vessels in the region.
