On Wednesday at the Supreme Court, senior advocate Dinesh Dwivedi and Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud had a lighthearted moment.
With a hint of irony, Mr. Dwivedi explained that the recent Holi celebrations were the reason for his multicolored hair. He laughed, “I apologize for my colorful hair. Holi is to blame.” This is the drawback of living surrounded by numerous children and grandchildren. You are helpless to save yourself.

Chief Justice Chandrachud took advantage of the occasion to inject some humor into the discussion. He joked, “Nothing to do with alcohol?” which made people laugh.

Mr Dwivedi, joining in the laughter, playfully admitted, “It does. Holi means partly alcohol… and I must confess… I am a fan of whiskey.”

The laughter broke out in the courtroom.

A case concerning industrial alcohol was being heard by a nine-judge Constitution bench. The bench discussed the overlapping authorities between the federal government and state governments regarding the production of industrial alcohol, as well as whether industrial alcohol is the same as edible alcohol that is sold in stores.

Speaking on behalf of the state of Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Dwivedi maintained that the government is in charge of all alcohol.
