New Delhi: The Congress party’s Central Election Committee will meet this evening. The top leaders of the Congress party will discuss and finalize the candidates for the remaining seats. As of Friday, two phases of elections were completed, with voting taking place in 189 seats thus far.
AICC Chief Mallikarjun Kharge will chair the meeting, and they are likely to discuss candidates for the Congress party’s strongholds, Amethi and Raebareli, in Uttar Pradesh. There are rumors circulating that Rahul Gandhi may contest from Amethi. However, the party has delayed the announcement as Rahul is also contesting from Wayanad. According to sources, announcing his candidacy in Amethi would negatively impact Wayanad for Gandhi. Therefore, the announcement was delayed. As Wayanad voted on Friday, the party may announce Rahul’s candidature from this seat.
Meanwhile, sources also indicate that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra may make her political debut from Raebareli. Priyanka’s mother, Sonia Gandhi, used to represent the seat. As she was elected from Rajya Sabha, her daughter may run from this constituency.
Smriti Irani, Union Minister and BJP candidate from Amethi, addressed a rally in Amethi where she stated that she received news that Rahul Gandhi would contest from there after Wayanad’s voting. She criticized his visit to the Ram Mandir, stating that they go to the temple believing that their visit could win votes, but that would not happen.
