As the temperature soars in Delhi, the Directorate of Education of the Delhi Government has issued guidelines aimed at safeguarding school students during the summer season. With daytime temperatures often exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in the national capital, posing health risks to children and teenagers, the directorate has emphasized the need for protective measures.

Addressing Heat-Related Risks

The directive highlights the increased incidence of heat-related illnesses, such as exhaustion, dehydration, diarrhea, and vomiting, among people in the NCR region. To mitigate these risks, the directorate has instructed principals of all schools to educate students about adopting appropriate measures to combat heat-related ailments.

Practical Measures

In response to the soaring temperatures, the directorate has mandated several practical measures. Schools operating in the afternoon shift are advised to refrain from conducting prayer meetings with students on school premises. Additionally, schools are urged to ensure the availability of drinking water for students and allow breaks for students to hydrate during classes.

Promoting Sun Safety

Recognizing the importance of sun safety, the directorate has stressed the significance of covering students’ heads with umbrellas, caps, towels, or other suitable items when exposed to direct sunlight. This precautionary measure aims to minimize the risk of heat-related health issues among students.

Prompt Reporting and Compliance

In the event of any heat-related illness, schools are instructed to promptly report cases to the nearest hospital. The Directorate has called upon District and Zonal Deputy Education Directors to ensure strict compliance with these guidelines, prioritizing the well-being of students amidst the challenging summer conditions.
