New Delhi: A 32-year-old woman from Delhi, who had been missing since February 23, was reportedly found deceased, allegedly strangled by her business partner, who is believed to have died by suicide in Sonipat, Haryana, according to the city police’s statement on Wednesday.

The body of the woman was discovered on Wednesday at a playschool site in Narela, where she was intending to establish a business partnership with Sohan Lal, her associate, as stated by the authorities.

A complaint was filed by Vijay Kumar, a resident of Swatantra Nagar, with the Narela police station on February 24, stating that his daughter had left home on February 23 on a two-wheeler and had not returned. The woman, who was divorced, resided with her father.

Kumar mentioned that his daughter was last seen in the company of her business partner, Sohan Lal, with whom she was planning to inaugurate the Tiny Dream Berry Playschool in Narela, a facility that was yet to commence operations, explained a senior police official.

According to the officer, Kumar attempted to contact his daughter on February 24 via her mobile phone, which was answered by an unknown individual. This person informed Kumar about an incident near the railway tracks in Sonipat’s Harshana village, where a man was attempting suicide. Kumar identified the man as Sohan Lal during a video call.

Kumar rushed to Harshana village and retrieved his daughter’s mobile phone from the unidentified person, but Sohan Lal had already left the scene by then, the officer recounted.

Subsequently, Kumar filed a missing person report at Narela police station on February 24. During the investigation, the premises of the playschool were inspected with the father’s presence, but the main office was found shuttered and locked, the officer added.

The mobile phone records of the woman and Sohan Lal were examined, revealing Sohan Lal’s last location to be Barauta, Haryana.

Upon gaining access to the playschool’s office with the landlord’s assistance, the woman’s father discovered her body behind the main desk. He promptly alerted the local authorities, who took custody of the body, said the officer.

The woman’s scarf was found wrapped around her neck, indicating that she had been strangled to death, the officer mentioned.

Efforts were made to locate Sohan Lal, and after coordinating with the Sonipat GRP, it was discovered that a person’s body was found on the railway tracks on February 25. The body is currently being held in a mortuary.

“The deceased is strongly believed to be Sohan Lal. There is suspicion that Sohan Lal may have strangled the woman and then taken his own life,” the officer concluded.

The motive behind the incident remains unknown, and authorities are proceeding to register a murder case, he further added.
