New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said in a statement on Thursday that due to the increased security measures in place ahead of Republic Day on January 26, the Central Industrial Security Force will be stepping up its passenger security checks throughout Metro stations starting on Friday and continuing through January 27.

Long lines at some Metro stations could arise from this, the statement continued, especially during peak hours at this time.

Therefore, passengers are advised to factor appropriately into their journey schedule and factor in extra time for their commute on these days. It also said, “During security checks, passengers are asked to cooperate with the security personnel.”

As Republic Day is being celebrated this month, there will be airspace restrictions in the nation’s capital for eleven days. There will be restrictions on airspace on January 19–25, as well as January 26–29.

According to officials, on January 19–25, from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., landing or takeoff of chartered flights and non-scheduled flights of scheduled airlines will not be allowed.

Scheduled flights won’t be affected during this time. These restrictions will be in effect from 6 am to 9 pm on January 26 and 29, per the notice to airmen (NOTAM) published by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

There will be no aircraft taking off or landing on Republic Day, January 26, from 0600 to 2100 hours.

The officials further stated that NOTAM operations will not affect state-owned aircraft or helicopters that are in flight with a state’s governor or chief minister, nor the Indian Army, BSF, or IAF.

On January 26, 2024, India will commemorate its 75th Republic Day, marking the historic day when the nation finished transforming into an independent republic following the ratification of the Constitution.

This year’s main guest will be French President Emmanuel Macron. This will mark the sixth time that a head of state from France will be the main attraction at Republic Day celebrations.
