Ten individuals are allegedly involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit medications used in the National Capital Region, including painkillers and antibiotics, according to a statement made by the Delhi Police on Thursday.
In the previous four weeks, police have disrupted networks implicated in the racket, according to Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), Sanjay Bhatia.

Regarding the operation, Mr. Bhatia provided details, stating that three teams from the Crime Branch were assigned to gather information regarding illicit networks operating in the Delhi-NCR due to a notable increase in the supply of counterfeit medications in Delhi’s retail marketplaces.

During a search of a vehicle under Tilak Bridge, huge quantities of fake Ultracet, Amaryl 1M, Gluconorm and Defcort tablets were seized and two people were arrested.

During interrogation, one of them admitted that the medicines were spurious and named two other suppliers, who were arrested as well, the ACP said.

The officer said over 44,500 tablets of Ultracet, Amaryl 1M, Gluconorm and Defcort-6 were seized from them.

Another person was apprehended in Uttam Nagar and 730 tablets of the same brands were seized from him, a police officer said.

A third team apprehended three more people from different places in the trans-Yamuna area and seized at least 57,000 fake Ultracet tablets, he added.

Police said the fake medicines posed a safety risk and therefore, a case under sections 420, 328, 120B of the IPC and 63 and 65 of the Copyright Act was registered.

An inquiry, according to a different police officer, revealed that a plant in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, was producing the phony Ultracet tablets. According to him, the unit’s owner and his staff were taken into custody.

He said these drugs were taken from Mandi to Panipat in Haryana and then to Delhi.

The official said the fake medicines were sold to a pharmacy in the Geeta neighborhood of Delhi.

Raids were carried out in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh during additional investigations, and a significant amount of fake tablets were found.
