New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is expected to appear before a court on Saturday in response to a complaint filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding his alleged non-compliance with summons in a money laundering case related to the now-defunct excise policy.
The court had summoned Kejriwal for February 17, stating that he was ‘legally obligated’ to comply with the summons.
The ED has accused Kejriwal of intentionally avoiding compliance with the summons and providing ‘lame excuses’. The agency emphasized that such actions by a high-ranking public official could set a negative precedent for the general public.
Based on the complaint and evidence presented, the court found prima facie evidence of an offense under Section 174 of the IPC, which pertains to non-attendance in obedience to an order from a public servant. Consequently, the court issued summons to Kejriwal for February 17, 2024.
This follows a fresh complaint filed by the ED on February 3 against Kejriwal for his failure to comply with previous summons.
Kejriwal, in response, had labeled the summonses as ‘illegal and politically motivated’ in a letter to the ED, alleging that they were aimed at hindering his election campaign activities.
