New Delhi: Police are grappling with a surge of misinformation circulating online following an incident in Delhi where an officer was observed kicking a small group of men engaged in prayer. In a recent fact-check, law enforcement authorities have refuted claims suggesting that the officer was assaulted by a mob on Saturday.
Over the weekend, a video circulated on social media platforms, alleging that “Inspector Manoj Tomar was assaulted in the presence of police.” The footage depicted a crowd gathered in the Inderlok area where the altercation took place on Friday.
However, police officials clarified that the officer in question was not visible in the video and the confrontations ensued after he had been escorted to a police post.
This is wrong information. The mentioned SI is not present in this video.
The video is not of yesterday (Saturday) but of Friday, 8th March, when protestors had gathered in Inderlok. Locals escorted police officers to the police post after which scuffle took place.@CPDelhi https://t.co/pEHesmoySW

“This information is incorrect. The mentioned Sub-Inspector is not visible in the video. The footage is from Friday, 8th March, when demonstrators had assembled in Inderlok. Local residents escorted police officers to the police post, where the altercation occurred,” stated the DCP of North Delhi.
Despite the clarification provided by the authorities, some users remained unsatisfied. One individual who shared the video pointed out that voices could be heard inciting violence in the background.
In a distressing 34-second video from Friday, Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar Tomar was observed attempting to disperse a group of individuals praying near a mosque in Inderlok. In a seemingly abrupt display of aggression, he kicked two individuals from behind. Another video depicted him forcefully pushing the praying individuals.
Following the incident, enraged protesters blocked the road, demanding action against the officer. Security measures were heightened in the area, with police conducting a flag march. Local residents were urged not to succumb to rumors.
Tomar has since been suspended and is facing disciplinary proceedings. A departmental inquiry has been launched against him, according to police officials.
