Kolkata: A team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials were attacked by villagers in West Bengal’s Purba Medinipur district on Saturday who went to probe and arrest suspect in Bhuptinagar blast case.
In the incident a NIA official suffered minor injuries after villagers attacked them in Bhupati Nagar, according to reports.
The NIA team reportedly nabbed two accused in connection with a 2022 blast case. Villagers attacked the NIA officials’ vehicle as they were returning to Kolkata.
Officials stated that locals gheraoed their vehicle and began pelting stones at it, resulting in minor injuries to one NIA officer.
The NIA investigation is linked to a 2022 case where a bomb blast destroyed a kutcha house, claiming three lives.
The NIA took over the investigation and attempted to arrest suspects, but people allegedly tried to prevent the NIA team from taking the accused individuals. To recall, three months ago, Enforcement Directorate officials were attacked in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal.
