Firefighters continue their arduous battle to extinguish a fire that erupted at the Ghazipur landfill site in east Delhi on Sunday, with efforts ongoing more than 17 hours after the blaze began, according to fire officials.
Ongoing Blaze
Atul Garg, Chief of Delhi Fire Services, reported that six fire tenders remain deployed at the site to combat the flames. The fire, which started at 5:20 pm on Sunday, persists despite overnight operations. Police have cordoned off the area to prevent access to the vicinity of the landfill for safety purposes.
Cause and Previous Incidents
Officials attribute the fire to dry weather conditions and heat. Similar fire incidents had been reported at the Ghazipur garbage site in 2022.
Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing blaze, firefighting efforts continue unabated as authorities work to bring the situation under control and prevent further escalation of the situation at the landfill site.
