New Delhi : As part of a new project, this winter, tulip flowers will be seen in DDA Parks all over Delhi, outside of the typical NDMC area.

In an effort to realize Delhi L-G VK Saxena’s goal of turning the capital into a “City of Flowers,” three lakh tulip plants have been purchased, which is double the amount that was purchased the previous year.

Raj Niwas has planted up to 500 tulip saplings, highlighting the growth of floral beauty. Together with other seasonal flowers like verbena, hollyhock, nasturtium, coreopsis, pansy, lianum, petunia, salvia, cineraria, antirrhinum, poppy, and verbena, the vibrant display features tulips in shades of yellow, white, orange, purple, blue, pink, and red.

The tulip plantation will be spread across 65 locations, including well-known spots like Talkatora Garden, Windsor Place, Shanti Path, Mandi House, Akbar Road, Chanakyapuri, Lodhi Garden, Nehru Park, and the RML roundabout.

Furthermore, 91 locations will be adorned with winter flowers, enhancing public spaces throughout the city.

Saxena took a proactive stance by emphasizing the value of future readiness in talks with several Horticulture Divisions.

He encouraged organizations like the NDMC, the DDA, and the MCD to raise tulip saplings locally in order to promote a more sustainable strategy.

In a bid to promote indigenous suppliers and reduce costs, Saxena liaised with his counterparts of J&K and Ladakh, as well as the Himachal Pradesh government, to source tulips domestically instead of abroad.

The NDMC, under his directives, established a unit for foreign flowers at Lodhi Garden. Notably, almost 54,000 imported tulip bulbs were harvested, with 52,000 sent for further research in Palanpur. The remaining bulbs are stored at the unit in Lodhi Gardens, marking a significant stride towards floral abundance in the heart of Delhi.
