Recent CCTV footage from Wayanad has resurfaced the traumatic memories of the recent devastating landslides, showing floodwaters violently destroying shops and infrastructure. The visuals, aired by Malayalam television channels, depict torrents of water smashing through shop shutters, breaking walls, and sweeping away animals and debris.

The landslides, which hit the Mundakkai and Chooralmala regions on July 30, resulted in severe damage, claiming over 200 lives and leaving many injured. Currently, the district administration reports 119 people missing, with the list still subject to updates. Efforts are underway to support survivors, with 614 students from destroyed schools in Vellarmala and Mundakkai being relocated to Meppadi GHSS and a special facility in Meppadi village. Additional classrooms and facilities are being constructed to accommodate these students.

The state government has already disbursed around Rs 72 lakh from the SDRF and CMDRF to affected individuals. Additionally, Rs 10,000 each has been provided to 617 people who lost their livelihoods and to 124 families for cremation and burial expenses. Financial aid is also being arranged for 34 hospitalized individuals.
