KOTTAYAM: A tragic case of domestic violence unfolded near Pallikkathodu on Thursday night when a 46-year-old woman was brutally killed by her son during a heated argument. The accused, identified as 26-year-old Aravind, was reportedly battling drug addiction and was undergoing treatment, police said.
The victim, Sindhu, was cooking dinner when the dispute erupted. In a sudden act of violence, Aravind allegedly picked up a sharp weapon and fatally attacked his mother. Sindhu, who made a living selling lottery tickets, died on the spot.
Neighbours who heard the commotion rushed to the house and found Aravind sitting silently beside his mother’s lifeless body. The police were alerted and arrested him at the scene.
Aravind, a former JCB driver, had been unemployed and struggling with substance abuse for some time, according to local sources. The family had been trying to manage his addiction, but Thursday’s incident turned their efforts into an unimaginable tragedy.
Sindhu’s younger son, a student, currently resides in Alappuzha and was not present at the time of the incident.
An investigation is underway, and the police have taken the accused into custody for further questioning.
