A class 9 student in north Bengaluru has accused her mother of serious abuse under the pretext of preparing her for adult responsibilities. The 45-year-old mother denies these allegations.
Sources say the girl lives with her mother and elder sister, while her father stays separately due to family conflicts. The student reported that this mistreatment had continued for over a year.
The issue came to light when a school counsellor, who regularly visits the private institution the girl attends, shared that during a recent conversation, the teenager disclosed her ordeal. The counsellor then filed a police complaint last Saturday.
Authorities have registered a case under relevant child protection laws. Investigators stated they have not yet officially recorded the girl’s statement. The mother was detained for questioning. She admitted to disciplining her daughter but denied any other wrongdoing.
A woman police officer in plain clothes, along with the counsellor, visited the residence to speak to the girl. The elder sister was also interviewed but reportedly gave unclear answers.
The case highlights urgent concerns about child safety and parental abuse of power.
