ERODE: In a major crackdown on the illegal drug trade, police on Saturday arrested a man in Nasiyanur for possessing and attempting to sell banned painkiller tablets and narcotics.

The accused, R. Chandrasekar of Amman Nagar, was detained on Friday after police found him with 50 tapentadol tablets — a highly addictive painkiller often misused by addicts through injection. Upon further investigation, authorities discovered that Chandrasekar was expecting a large courier delivery from Mumbai containing 1,500 additional tablets.

Acting swiftly, police seized the parcel from a courier office in Nasiyanur on Saturday. The raid also led to the recovery of 800 grams of ganja, 70 injection vials, ₹45,000 in cash, three mobile phones, two two-wheelers, and two cars.

He has been booked under Section 123 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 8(c) read with 20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act and was remanded to judicial custody.

In a separate operation, Bhavani police arrested two more individuals — S. Kannaprakash (42), an auto driver from Lakshmi Nagar, and M. Black Babu (36) of Mettupalayam — for possession of 450 grams of ganja. They were intercepted near the new bridge in Bhavani, where a vehicle search led to the seizure.

Investigations revealed that the duo sourced the ganja from a known offender, M. Vijayan alias Vijayakumar, and were en route to deliver it to a man named Saravanan in Coimbatore.
