In a shocking incident on Sunday evening, Harshpal Mahadev Waghmare (40), an Army officer posted in Assam, allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol and hit 25 to 30 people in Nagpur’s Nagardhan area, near Durga Chowk, while on a four-day leave in Maharashtra.
Waghmare lost control of his vehicle around 8:30 pm, driving recklessly through the crowd before his car overturned and fell into a drain.
Angry locals pulled him out, thrashed him, and handed him over to the police.
Visuals show him bleeding and struggling to get away from the mob.
The Ramtek police have arrested Waghmare and taken him for medical treatment. An investigation is underway into the accident and his condition at the time.
