Family tragedy in Dindigul: Four found dead after woman’s elopement
MADURAI: In a heart-wrenching incident, four members of a family were discovered hanging inside their home in Chinnakulipatti village, near Oddanchatram in Dindigul district, on Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as Chellammal (65), her daughter Kaleeswari (45), and granddaughters Lithiksha (7) and Deepthisha (5).
Police investigations revealed a tragic trigger behind the mass suicide. A few days earlier, Pavithra (28), daughter of Kaleeswari, had eloped with her lover, abandoning her two young daughters. Distraught and overwhelmed by the situation, Chellammal and Kaleeswari reportedly decided to take the extreme step.
Officers said the two women allegedly made the children die by hanging first, and then took their own lives in the same manner. Preliminary findings suggest deep emotional turmoil and shame over the social fallout of Pavithra’s actions may have contributed to their decision.
A case has been registered by Edayakottai police, and further inquiries are ongoing.
