Thiruvananthapuram: Former cricketer and BJP candidate for Thiruvananthapuram constituency S Sreesanth lost in the Kerala assembly election results declared on Thursday.

After the results were out, Sreesanth tweeted: “Thanks to all the supporters for all the love and respect… will surly keep working for the people.”

Sreesanth was given a life ban by the BCCI in 2013 following being found guilty in macth fixing in IPL tournament. But, later in 2015 the Delhi Court had exonerated Sreesanth and two others.

The 33-year-old had become a target after the BJP had announced him as the official candidate for the constituency, but Sreesanth maintained that he was not bothered about such political attack mainly because his name was cleared by the court in the match-fixing case.

Former Union minister and octogenarian O Rajagopal was elected to the Kerala assembly from Nemom constituency in Thiruvananthapuram district, giving the BJP its first ever representation in the House. He won with a margin of over 8,000 votes.
