Bantwal: In the very first case handled by the newly formed Anti Corruption Bureau in Dakshina Kannada district, a Village Accountant was nabbed for demanding bribe from a person for changing the RTC.
Ranjith, VA of Punacha Gram Panchayat had allegedly demanded a sum of Rs 6,000 from Nagaraj Bhat, a resident of Kambalimoole of Punacha village for doing the said work.
Bhat had purchased a land and about a month ago he had applied for changing the RTC of the said land. With the application he had also forwarded Rs 500 to Ranjith to move the papers.
But when the papers did not get sorted out even after several weeks, Bhat met Ranjith, who then kept forth a demand for Rs 6,000.
Fed up with the VA’s attitude, Bhat filed a complaint with the newly formed ACB.
Acting briskly on the complaint, the ACB sleuths on Thursday nabbed Ranjith red-handed and seized Rs 6,500 from him.
He has been produced before the court.
ACB Inspector Yogish Kumar has said that the next course of action will be decided accordingly.
The team had ACB DySP Sudhir Hegde, Inspector Dinakar Shetty, Head Constable Rakesh, Radhakrishna and Constable Umesh.
