A Varanasi court issued a life sentence to Mukhtar Ansari, a former gangster who later entered politics, on Wednesday. This ruling came in a case related to the acquisition of arms license through the submission of falsified documents in 1990.
Ansari, currently incarcerated and facing multiple charges, was found guilty under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including 428 (mischief), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 120B (criminal conspiracy), as well as Section 30 of the Arms Act.
The conviction pertains to Ansari’s application to the district magistrate of Ghazipur for a double-barrel gun license. However, investigations revealed that the license was obtained through the submission of forged signatures purportedly from the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police.
