Bengaluru: Ahead of the IPL 2024, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) may finally fulfill the long-standing wish of their home fans by considering a name change to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The franchise teased this possibility during the RCB Unbox event, scheduled for Monday (March 19) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
In a recent video shared by RCB on social media, featuring Kannada star Rishabh Shetty, there are hints of a significant announcement regarding the team’s name. In the video, Shetty interacts with three buffaloes, each representing a word from the team’s current name. He notably instructs the herder of the buffalo with the word “Bangalore” to take it away, suggesting a potential change in name.
The news has sparked excitement among RCB fans, particularly those from Karnataka, who have long advocated for the inclusion of “Bengaluru” in the team’s name. Even Bengaluru’s Pro Kabaddi side has voiced support for the potential name change.
While this development could be interpreted as a hint for a name change, some fans remain cautious, recalling previous instances where similar teasers led to no actual change in the name. However, considering the franchise’s efforts to engage with its loyal fan base, it’s likely that they will heed the fans’ wishes and officially adopt the name Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the upcoming event.
