Varanasi: In a remarkable tale of perseverance and determination, Govind Jaiswal, the son of a cycle rickshaw puller from Varanasi, has achieved an incredible feat by cracking the UPSC examination in 2006 at the age of 22, securing an All India Rank (AIR) of 48. His inspiring journey is a testament to his unwavering spirit and his father’s relentless support.
Govind’s father, who owned 35 cycle rickshaws at one point, faced financial adversity when he had to sell 20 rickshaws to cover the medical expenses for his ailing wife. Tragically, Govind’s mother succumbed to illness the same year, leaving the family emotionally shattered.
Despite the challenges, Govind’s father was determined to fulfill his son’s dreams. In 2004-05, Govind traveled to Delhi to prepare for the UPSC examination. Financial constraints were a significant hurdle, but his father’s unwavering belief led him to sell 14 cycle rickshaws, keeping only one for himself to make ends meet.
Govind’s father, despite suffering from a leg ailment, continued to run the lone rickshaw to support his family. His sacrifice and determination became the driving force for Govind, who matched his father’s resolve with relentless dedication and hard work.
Against all odds, Govind cracked the UPSC examination, securing the 48th rank in 2006.
