A head constable of the Jammu and Kashmir Police died after collapsing while on duty and being rushed to hospital, officials said on Friday.
Head Constable Surinder Sharma, who was posted at the Grid Station Pampore and hailed from Jammu, was found unconscious and immediately shifted to the Sub-District Hospital in Pampore for emergency medical care.
Referred to Srinagar for advanced treatment
Due to the seriousness of his condition, doctors referred him to SMHS Hospital for advanced treatment. Despite sustained efforts by the medical team, the officer succumbed during treatment, officials confirmed.
The exact cause of death has not yet been officially disclosed. Police sources said further medical reports are awaited.
Police fraternity in grief
The sudden death of the head constable has left colleagues and seniors in deep shock. Fellow personnel described Surinder Sharma as a disciplined and committed officer who carried out his duties with dedication.
Senior police officials expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of all possible assistance as per rules. The Jammu and Kashmir Police is expected to conduct official last rites with due honours.
