New Delhi: India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, stated that India has not ruled out an investigation into the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar but emphasized that Canada has not shared any evidence against alleged “Indian agents” involved in the murder.

Jaishankar raised concerns about Canada accommodating individuals advocating separatism from India, including through violent means, within its politics. He mentioned a previous attack on the Indian high commission and diplomats in Canada, asserting that Canadian authorities did not take appropriate action.

The minister called for responsible use of freedom of speech and expression, highlighting the need to address the misuse of these freedoms. Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had accused India of orchestrating Nijjar’s killing, leading to increased diplomatic tensions between the two countries. Jaishankar expressed a willingness to investigate if Canada shared evidence but noted that no such information had been provided.
