New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said India is entering into trade and mobility agreements with several countries to create new employment opportunities for the youth, both within the country and abroad. He made these remarks while addressing the 18th edition of the Rozgar Mela, during which he handed over 61,000 appointment letters for various government jobs through video conferencing.
Addressing newly recruited candidates at 45 locations across the country, the Prime Minister said such international agreements are opening new avenues for skilled Indian youth in global markets. “India is signing trade and mobility agreements with several countries. These trade agreements are bringing new opportunities for the youth of the nation,” he said.
Focus on India’s young population
The Prime Minister noted that India has the largest youth population in the world, which he described as the country’s biggest strength. He said the government is working on multiple fronts to ensure that this demographic advantage translates into employment and economic growth.
“Our efforts are focused on creating opportunities for young people not just within India, but also abroad,” Modi said, adding that skill development, education reforms and global partnerships are being aligned to meet this objective.
He emphasised that employment generation remains a top priority of his government and is being pursued through both public sector recruitment and private sector growth driven by reforms and investments.
Rozgar Mela as a national initiative
According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Rozgar Mela is a flagship initiative aimed at accelerating recruitment in government departments and ministries. It is part of the Prime Minister’s commitment to give the highest priority to job creation and timely filling of vacant posts.
Since the launch of the Rozgar Mela programme, more than 11 lakh appointment letters have been issued to candidates across the country. The initiative is designed to streamline recruitment processes and ensure transparency and efficiency in government hiring.
The PMO statement said the Rozgar Mela reflects the government’s broader vision of empowering youth by providing stable employment and opportunities for career growth.
61,000 appointment letters issued
At the 18th Rozgar Mela, appointment letters were issued to 61,000 candidates selected from different parts of the country. The Prime Minister interacted with the recruits virtually and congratulated them on joining public service.
He urged the new appointees to uphold integrity, dedication and a sense of responsibility while serving the nation. “You are entering government service at a time when the country is moving forward with confidence. Your role will be important in shaping India’s future,” he said.
The event was organised simultaneously at 45 locations, allowing candidates from various regions to participate without the need for large-scale travel.
Appointments across key ministries
The newly recruited candidates will be joining several important ministries and departments of the central government. These include the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Financial Services, Department of Higher Education and other key institutions.
Officials said the recruits will take up roles across administrative, technical and support services, strengthening the functioning of government machinery. The induction of new personnel is expected to help improve service delivery and implementation of public welfare schemes.
Employment and economic growth
The Prime Minister linked employment generation to India’s broader economic strategy. He said initiatives such as infrastructure expansion, manufacturing growth, digital transformation and international trade agreements are creating a favourable environment for job creation.
Modi added that mobility agreements with foreign nations are particularly beneficial for skilled professionals, enabling them to work overseas while contributing to India’s global reputation as a talent hub.
He reiterated that the government will continue to focus on policies that support entrepreneurship, innovation and skill development alongside public sector recruitment.
Conclusion
The 18th Rozgar Mela underscored the government’s continued emphasis on employment generation and youth empowerment. By combining domestic recruitment drives with international trade and mobility agreements, the Prime Minister said India is working towards creating diverse and sustainable job opportunities.
With over 11 lakh appointment letters issued so far under the Rozgar Mela initiative, the programme has emerged as a key mechanism for translating policy intent into tangible employment outcomes for the country’s youth.
