India and Palestine have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the construction of a 200-bed Indian Super-Speciality Hospital in Palestine, as India looks to strengthen its development assistance to the country.

The proposed hospital will include modern medical facilities and a dedicated trauma centre, marking a significant expansion of India’s healthcare support for the Palestinian people.

India backs healthcare and skill development

The hospital project was among the key outcomes of the visit to Palestine by External Affairs Ministry Secretary Sripriya Ranganathan.

During the visit, India and Palestine also signed an MoU to establish a technical and vocational education and training centre within the Palestinian National Printing Press.

The centre will provide training in the printing sector and is aimed at strengthening vocational skills and employment opportunities.

Palestine backs India’s UN bid

Palestinian Ambassador to India Abdullah Abu Shawesh also backed India’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2028-29 term.

Addressing reporters, Shawesh said Palestine had supported reforms to the United Nations and the Security Council and had previously advocated for India to have a permanent seat on the Council.

He described India as one of the countries that should have a permanent place in a reformed Security Council.

Stronger development partnership

The agreements underline India’s focus on development assistance to Palestine through healthcare, vocational education and capacity building.

The proposed super-speciality hospital, along with the new vocational training centre, is expected to strengthen cooperation between the two sides while supporting essential services and skills development in Palestine.
