Srinagar: An Indian military chopper crashed in an open field near Garend Kalaan village of Budgam district, in Jammu and Kashmir, at around 10 AM, on Wednesday, February 27. Reportedly, all the four personnel onboard were killed, and the identity of the deceased has not been confirmed yet.
According to senior defence officials, an MI-17 chopper, which crashed due to technical complications, broke into two and caught fire immediately.
Major General Asif Ghafoor, head of Pakistan military’s media wing, took to Twitter to claim that the Pakistani military shot down the Indian aircraft along with another aircraft for violating Pakistani airspace. He also mentioned that one of the aircraft fell in Jammu and Kashmir, while the other fell in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
However, according to Indian officials, the aircraft crash has nothing to do with Pakistan’s retaliation. An IAF jet which was on air patrol forced the Pakistani fighter jets to retreat as soon as the Pak jets violated Indian air space in Nowshera sector.
