New Delhi: A 36-year-old man’s suspicious death in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, initially believed to be accidental electrocution, has now been confirmed as a murder. Investigations revealed a chilling murder conspiracy involving his wife and paternal cousin, leading to their arrest.
The victim, Karan Dev, was rushed to a hospital in Janakpuri on July 13, where he was declared dead. His wife, Sushmita, claimed that he had been electrocuted at home, and the family initially refused an autopsy, assuming a natural accident. However, police insisted on a post-mortem due to his young age and suspicious circumstances, sending the body to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.
The case took a dramatic turn when Karan’s younger brother, Kunal, discovered damning Instagram messages between Sushmita and Rahul, Karan’s cousin. The chat history, handed to police on July 16, exposed a detailed plan to sedate Karan using 15 sleeping pills mixed in his food on July 12.
When the drugs failed to act swiftly, Sushmita grew nervous. Her chat to Rahul read, “It’s been three hours… he hasn’t reacted. What now?” Rahul responded: “If it’s not working, try giving him an electric shock.”
As per police, the duo administered current to Karan’s finger while he was still semi-conscious, aiming to stage the scene as an accident. Later, Sushmita informed the family he’d suffered a shock.
Despite Rahul initially opposing an autopsy, police followed protocol. After reviewing the chats and interrogating both, the accused confessed. Sushmita alleged domestic abuse and financial pressure from Karan.
