In a disturbing and highly unusual case from Banda district, Uttar Pradesh, a 35-year-old man reportedly chewed and partially swallowed a live snake while under the influence of alcohol, alarming his family and locals.
The individual, identified as Ashok, was said to be intoxicated and aimlessly roaming around his home when he caught hold of a live snake and placed it into his mouth. Witnesses claim he began chewing the reptile and even swallowed portions of it after tearing it apart.
His mother, Siya Dulari, witnessed the horrifying act and immediately intervened. Though she managed to remove the snake from his mouth, Ashok had already ingested two pieces of it by that time. The family rushed him to the nearby community health centre, where a video has since gone viral showing him visibly distressed while seated in the waiting area.
The incident underscores the dangerous mix of alcohol abuse and impulsive behavior, and has triggered shock on social media. Medical professionals stress that such acts can result in severe poisoning, infections, or fatal outcomes, and call for greater awareness on substance abuse and mental health support in rural communities.
Authorities have not yet commented on whether further treatment or psychological evaluation will be conducted.
