External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar lauded the robust and evolving partnership between India and the United States, highlighting the Trump administration’s prioritization of bilateral ties. His remarks followed his participation in the inaugural ceremony of Donald Trump, who was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20.

Speaking to the media, Jaishankar emphasized the administration’s eagerness to deepen India-US relations. “The Trump administration has shown a clear commitment to involving India in strategic dialogues and building on the strong foundation laid by previous administrations,” he stated. Jaishankar also noted the administration’s intent to advance the Quad, a strategic alliance between the US, Japan, Australia, and India.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Special Envoy, Jaishankar carried a personal letter from the Prime Minister to President Trump. He also held a significant bilateral meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, marking Rubio’s first engagement in his new role. Discussions centered on enhancing strategic cooperation in defence, energy, critical technologies, and addressing regional challenges.

Rubio reaffirmed the US’s interest in strengthening collaboration with India, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region. Jaishankar expressed optimism about deepening partnerships in trade, security, and emerging technologies.

The India-US relationship has witnessed remarkable progress in recent years, bolstered by shared strategic goals and the influential Indian-American community, which includes 4.4 million individuals in the US. This community plays a crucial role in fostering bilateral ties and advancing cooperation across multiple sectors.
