Srinagar: Terrorists shot dead a worker of Punjab and injured another in the Habba Kadal area of the city on Wednesday, officials reported.
Amritpal Singh, a resident of Amritsar, fell victim to terrorists wielding AK rifles at point-blank range in the Shalla Kadal locality of Habba Kadal around 7 pm, according to officials.
Singh tragically succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while another non-local worker, identified as 25-year-old Rohit, also from Amritsar, sustained gunshot wounds to the abdomen. Rohit is currently receiving medical treatment at SMHS Hospital in the city.
Authorities have swiftly responded to the incident, with police securing the area and launching efforts to apprehend the assailants.
This marks the first attack on a non-local individual in Kashmir this year, following a series of similar assaults on non-local workers in the valley, notably in Anantnag and Shopian districts, over the course of last year.
