Kashmir has received its first snowfall of the season, prompting locals and tourists to step out and celebrate the arrival of winter. However, with snowfall occurring unevenly across districts, a humorous video from the Valley has gone viral, capturing the light-hearted spirit with which residents are responding to the weather gap.
The video, originally posted on Instagram by user Suhail Showkatt (@suhail_showkatt), shows locals jokingly “buying” snow in districts that had not yet received snowfall. The clip claims that snow was being “imported” from Sonamarg, which had witnessed heavy snowfall, to areas like Srinagar and Ganderbal, where snow was initially absent.
Snow ‘trade’ leaves internet amused
In the video, a tempo filled with snow is shown parked on the roadside, with men playfully acting as sellers. One person enquires about the “price”, quality, and origin of the snow, to which the sellers confidently reply that it is premium-quality snow sourced from Sonamarg. Another man is seen purchasing a large quantity, adding to the comic effect.
The caption accompanying the video read: “While every district of Kashmir is experiencing snowfall, there are Ganderbal and Srinagar with no snowfall at all. Now we exported snow from Sonamarg. Gunah te bai kya (It’s not a crime, is it, bro?).”
Online reactions pour in
The clip quickly gained traction across social media platforms, drawing amused reactions from users across the country. Some Delhi-based users jokingly asked if home delivery was available, while others praised the Kashmiri sense of humour, calling it “joy wrapped in simplicity”.
Interestingly, reports later confirmed that snowfall did reach Srinagar soon after the video went viral. Adding to the humour, the original uploader commented that with snow finally arriving, the “rates” had now dropped.
As Kashmir welcomes winter in full swing, the viral video stands out as a reminder of how humour continues to flourish, even in the coldest of seasons.
