Kerala Groom’s Creative Ration-Card-Themed Wedding Invitation Goes Viral
A wedding invitation from Kerala has gone viral for its quirky and unique design—a ration-card-inspired invite. The groom, Jyothish R Pillai, popularly known as the “Ration shop boy,” crafted a creative card that resembles a ration card, a tribute to his family’s long-standing connection with the local ration shop.
Pillai, from Enathu village in Pathanamthitta, Kerala, wanted to honor his family’s history, having grown up working alongside his mother at their family-owned ration shop. This nostalgic nod to his childhood led him to design a wedding card that resembled a ration card, creatively blending personal history with the excitement of his upcoming wedding.
His story gained attention when it was shared by Kerala-based news outlet Mathrubhumi, along with pictures of the unusual wedding invitation. According to the report, Jyothish’s great-uncle was the original owner of the ration shop, followed by his father, K K Ravindran Pillai. After his father’s passing in 2003, his mother continued managing the shop, where Jyothish spent much of his childhood. This unique invitation was a perfect reflection of his upbringing and a tribute to his mother’s years of service at the shop.
The entire invitation, written in Malayalam, included all the essential details of the wedding in a format inspired by a ration card. The wedding ceremony took place on February 2, as per the invitation.
