Kerala High Court Orders Counselling for Couple Amid Serious Allegations

Kerala High Court Orders Counselling For Couple Amid Serious Allegations

The Kerala High Court has directed Rahul P Gopal and his wife to undergo counselling through the Kerala State Legal Services Authority (KeLSA) following allegations of domestic violence. Rahul was accused of attempting to strangle his wife with a cable wire over dowry demands, leading to charges under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Despite the severity of the accusations, the couple has expressed a desire to reconcile, with Rahul’s wife later posting a video claiming the allegations were false.

Justice A Badharudeen, presiding over the case, emphasized that while the allegations are grave, they should not prevent the couple from attempting to resolve their differences and live together. The court ordered that no coercive actions be taken against Rahul and his family until the next hearing. The couple is required to attend counselling sessions next week, and the report will be submitted in a sealed cover for the court’s review.

The Public Prosecutor raised concerns about the seriousness of the allegations and referenced medical evidence of injuries sustained by the complainant. However, he did not oppose the couple’s decision to reconcile. The court’s final decision will hinge on the counselling report, balancing legal, moral, and societal considerations.
