A tragic incident has claimed the life of Sandeep, a 36-year-old electrician from Nayarangadi, Thrissur district, Kerala. Sandeep was working at a Russian military camp amid the ongoing conflict with Ukraine when he was killed in a shell attack.
Sandeep had traveled to Russia in April to work at a restaurant, but was later employed at a military canteen. His family lost contact with him recently and was shocked to receive confirmation from a Russian Malayali association that he had been identified as a casualty in the attack. His cousin, Saran, confirmed the details after verifying the information.
According to Saran, Sandeep had sent one month’s salary back home and had informed his family that he was employed in Moscow. However, his communication became infrequent, and it was later discovered he had been relocated to a military canteen, which was exposed to attacks from Ukrainian forces.
Sandeep is survived by his parents, Chandran and Valsala, both farm workers. The family is now seeking the assistance of the Indian embassy in Russia to repatriate his body to Kerala.
