Kozhikode: In Kozhikode, a massive crowd of BJP supporters and the general public gathered outside the Nadakkavu Police Station as actor Suresh Gopi was questioned in connection with a case involving the “improper touching” of a woman journalist. After over two hours of anxious waiting, Suresh Gopi emerged from the police station, and his counsel stated that the questioning was complete, and he had not received any notice of arrest.
The actor expressed gratitude to the supporters gathered outside and urged them not to put pressure on the police force. BJP leaders, including State President K Surendran, also joined the protest march and criticized the police action as an attempt to intimidate the actor. The case stems from an incident on October 27 when Suresh Gopi placed his hand on a woman journalist’s shoulder during a media interaction, leading to protests and a subsequent complaint by the journalist.
The actor, set to contest the Thrissur Lok Sabha seat on a BJP ticket, apologized for the incident, but the matter escalated, resulting in the police inquiry. Supporters argue that the police action is vindictive, while critics emphasize the need for accountability in such cases.
