Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala’s 580 km of coastline, which is home to some of the best beach resorts in the world, including Asia’s longest drive-in beach at Muzhappilangad, are ready to be fully utilized for tourism.

The state needs to fully realize the potential of beach tourism, according to Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas, and the government plans to move forward by connecting tourist destinations along its extensive seacoast, which is spread across nine of its 14 districts.

Kerala has a lot of potential for beach tourism, and it will be used wisely. Kerala’s shoreline is perfect for aquatic activities. But currently, there are a few projects. When used wisely, it will significantly increase the state’s revenue,” he declared following the opening of a floating bridge at Papanasam Beach in Varkala, close by.

He said many investors has expressed their intent to investing in beach tourism and it would be under the public-private partnership model.

The floating bridge is 100 metres long and three metres wide with pillars on both sides. At the bridge’s end is a platform of 11 metres long and seven metres wide, enabling visitors to enjoy the scenery far off the sea. Constructed with 1,400 high-density floating polyethylene blocks, the bridge, held by 700 kg anchors, is equipped with all protective measures, including safety boats, life jackets, and lifeguards.

Around 100 visitors can enter the floating bridge at a time and move along the sea’s waves.
