Ten individuals have been apprehended in connection with a suspected case of mob lynching in Kerala’s Muvattupuzha, where a migrant worker was allegedly beaten to death two days ago.

The victim, identified as Asok Das, a 24-year-old man from Arunachal Pradesh, had come to Kerala in search of employment and had been residing in a rented house in Valakam, near Muvattupuzha.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Das was tied to a pole and interrogated by a group of locals when he visited his female friend residing in the same area on Thursday evening. He was later taken to a nearby general hospital and subsequently referred to Kolencherry Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday while undergoing treatment.

Sources indicate that Das suffered severe injuries due to the brutal manhandling by the locals, leading to his untimely demise.

A case has been registered under Section 174 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for non-attendance in obedience to an order from a public servant. Following a preliminary inquiry, additional charges, including Section 302 of IPC for murder, have been invoked against the accused, according to officials.

Authorities have assured a comprehensive investigation into the matter, with efforts underway to apprehend all the accused at the earliest.
