Despite ongoing efforts to ensure water supply, many parts of Mangaluru are facing water scarcity, leading to an increase in water tanker deliveries.

On Friday, the water levels in Thumbay dam dropped to 5.07 meters, while in AMR dam, it depleted to 17.10 meters. Although pumping from Harekala dam to Thumbay dam is ongoing to maintain water levels, the daily decline remains a concern.

Currently, 155 MLD (Million Liters per Day) of water is lifted from Thumbay dam to supply drinking water to the city, but the current reserves are expected to last only for 45 days. As a result, the Municipal Corporation is considering implementing water rationing for April.

Areas within the Municipal Corporation of Mangaluru (MCC) limits that do not receive water from Thumbay dam are supplied with tanker water. Nearly 70 tankers are dispatched daily to meet the water demands. In rural Ullal, water scarcity persists in several places, including Thokottu, Balepuni, Konaje, Naringana, Pajeeru, Manjanady, and Innoli gram panchayat limits. To address this, nine tankers make approximately 30 trips per day to provide water to these areas.

Furthermore, water is supplied to 12 city wards, Ullal, Kotekar, and Someshwar through 10 water tankers, making a total of 62 trips to ensure adequate water supply to these regions.
